The channel will become the first in UK television to air a full set of adverts in French, taking place on June 9.

The special ads will be aired during the first episode of new French zombie drama The Returned.

The adverts will feature English subtitles and will air during the show's first break at approximately 9.10pm.

Brands such as L'Oreal, Renault and Emirates will air special French-language commercials during the three-and-a-half-minute break.

Jonathan Allan, Sales Director at Channel 4, said: "We're really excited to bring the first entirely French ad break to Channel 4 to herald the arrival of our eagerly awaited new zombie drama series – it should really make the ads fit within the context of the show and surprise the viewer, cutting through to the audience."

The Returned is a supernatural crime thriller, written by Fabrice Gobert, Emmanuel Carrere and Fabien Adda, and follows a group of men, women and children in a small Alpine village who don't yet know they have been dead for several years.

The series begins on Sunday, June 9 at 9pm on Channel 4.
