'EastEnders', 'Emmerdale' close in Thursday soap ratings

Emmerdale and EastEnders were neck-and-neck in Thursday evening's soap ratings (May 16), overnight figures show.

The latest visit to Albert Square, which saw Sharon's stress escalate, pulled in 6.52m (32.9%) at 7.30pm on BBC One. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 555k (3.8%) at 10.30pm.

Emmerdale interested 6.48m (34.5%) at 7pm on ITV and 147k (0.7%) on +1 as Sean received an electric shock, while 6.33m (30.2%) returned at 8pm and 252k (1.2%) on +1 to see whether the rebellious teenager would be okay.

Waterloo Road managed 2.73m (13.1%) at 8pm on BBC One as Dynasty's ex-boyfriend Steve-O arrived.

Hollyoaks brought 879k (5.3%) to Channel 4 at 6.30pm as things became worse for Leanne, while E4's first look had 508k (2.7%) at 7pm.

On Channel 5, Neighbours grabbed 644k (10.5%) at 1.45pm and 823k (6.3%) at 5.30pm, while Home and Away claimed 211k (3.5%) at 1.15pm, 674k (4.5%) at 6pm and 476k (2.9%) for 5*'s first look at 6.30pm.

Elsewhere, the latest episode of Doctors was seen by 1.35m (22.1%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
