Coventry councillor lands £22,500 part-time police job

A Coventry councillor has been named one of the region’s new assistant police and crime commissioners.

Coun Faye Abbott – who will represent Coventry and Solihull in her new role – will support West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner Bob Jones alongside two other assistants.

About 20 people applied for the Coventry post, which pays £22,500 for 10 days work a month.

Mr Jones has also appointed four non executive members to his strategic policing and crime board.

Current Lord Mayor of Coventry, Coun Tim Sawdon and Berkswell businessman Brendan Connor have both been given posts alongside former PCC candidate Cath Hannon and Birmingham councillor Ernie Hendricks.

They will earn £7,500 a year for two days work a month.

Coun Abbot said: “I think it’s very important these roles have been created – the West Midlands is such a large area.

“Bob cannot be everywhere and to have some local people to work with him is absolutely fantastic.

“For me this is about building links with residents and residents groups as well as the rest of the local community.

“The role is roughly two days a week but for me I want to do the job right – if it takes longer it takes longer.”

She was elected to represent Wyken in 2010 and has sat on the council’s licensing and scrutiny committees as well as the community safety and neighbourhood action board.

I fail to see how she can do two jobs properly. :x
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
