Consultation launched into planned street trading policy

Views are being sought over planned changes to Coventry’s current Street Trading Policy.

A consultation has been launched into the scheme, which was introduced in the city for the first time in April this year.

The city council is proposing to make a series of changes following experience gained in running the scheme.

They include increasing the number of traders who will not have to pay, together with a revised fee structure for all others.

Councillor Phil Townshend, Coventry City Council’s cabinet member for community safety and equalities, said: “This was the first city wide street trading policy for Coventry.

“The scheme has had magnificent success in meeting its initial aims. For example it has been a major factor in dealing with nuisance car sales.

“However, the city council has gained experience and taken account of people’s comments as it reviews the policy and is proposing some changes which the Council will be consulting on.”

The consultation runs until Thursday, February 14, and the revised policy will be implemented in 2013.
