Family win £26.1m on EuroMillions

A family from Surrey have won £26.1m after winning the EuroMillions lottery.

The family from Dorking each paid into a weekly syndicate and shared the total prize money with a second ticket holder from France.

The syndicate was made up of Colin Sturt, 53, his brother Gary, 51, sister Teresa, 44, and their father George, 76.

Each person will reportedly share £6.5m after choosing the numbers 11, 26, 29, 49,50 and lucky star numbers 4 and 7.

The two tickets won the triple rollover jackpot in the lottery which was drawn on 15 January.

At a press conference the family said that the winning numbers were from a Lucky Dip and attributed the win to George Sturt's wife, Maureen, who died of breast cancer in July.

The winning ticket was the third win of the week for the family who won £22 and £52 in two previous lotteries.

Teresa Sturt said of the win: "When you dream of winning, you think you'd scream but you just stare at each other and are completely gob-smacked - initially you don't want to believe it unless it isn't true."

The family plan to support a number of local charities with their winnings, as well as securing the family's future.

Colin Sturt, who has six children with his wife Julie, said he will buy property for his children.

"To give them the security of a roof over their heads is just great. I will expect them to work, we are from a hard-working family, and I've no doubt the family building firm will continue, but it will certainly make a big difference to their start in life," he said.

Mr Sturt also promised to take his wife to New Zealand for the Rugby World Cup next year.

Gary Sturt said he would spend the money on cars and paying off mortgages and would splurge on a new Harley Davidson motorcycle.

The family are now fourth on the National Lottery's Rich List after scooping a total of £26,151,124.20.
