Flooding has disrupted rail services in Warwickshire

Postby dutchman » Wed Nov 21, 2012 3:06 pm

Trains between Coventry and Birmingham International are being cancelled and delayed due to flooding on the line.

The line had been closed completely but reopened at reduced speeds at around 11am. Virgin Trains are accepting London Midland rail tickets during the disruption.

No estimate has been provided for when normal rail services will be resumed.

The A428 Coventry Road through Church Lawford, near Rugby, is closed due to flooding. It is expected to be closed until around 5pm.

Delays are expected after an accident in Nuneaton at Griff Island at 8.15am.

Flood warnings have been issued this morning for the Upper Avon, River Stour, River Swift, River Dene, River Arrow, River Alne, River Anker, River Sence, Middle Tame and Clay Coton Brook.

Before the flooding, no train cancellations had been announced today for the West Coast Mainline through Coventry and Nuneaton.

Problems with a lack of drivers at the rail operator had meant problems with the service over recent months.

But a statement from London Midland said: "All shifts are covered on November 21 and we therefore plan to run all 1,310 of our scheduled services."

Traffic is also avoiding the Butts Park Arena at the present time and using Upper Spon Street and Windsor Street as a diversion. Cause unknown.
