'Coronation Street' hits 8.9m with Tommy, Tina plot

Coronation Street enjoyed strong ratings on Monday evening (September 17) as Tommy and Tina had big decisions to make about their future as a couple, overnight figures show.

The Weatherfield soap pulled in 8.45m (39.1%) at 7.30pm on ITV1 and 215k (0.9%) on +1 as Tommy continued to oppose Tina's surrogacy plan. Later, 8.85m (35.9%) watched at 8.30pm and 284k (1.2%) on timeshift as Tommy vowed to stand by Tina.

EastEnders, meanwhile, attracted 7.55m (30.8%) at 8pm on BBC One as Michael struggled following Janine's departure. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 531k (3.6%) at 10.30pm.

Emmerdale interested 6.72m (33.8%) at 7pm with the latest Marlon and Paddy dramas, adding 148k (0.6%) on +1.

Hollyoaks hit 1m (5.4%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 with more rows at the Kane household, while E4's first look brought in 555k (2.8%) at 7pm and 111k (0.5%) an hour later.

Hollyoaks Later kicked off its new series on E4 with 463k (2.7%) at 10pm and 111k (1.3%) on timeshift.

Over on Channel 5, Neighbours' car crash scenes were witnessed by 659k (10.0%) at 1.45pm and 936k (6.5%) at 5.30pm, while Home and Away managed 631k (3.7%) at 6pm and 458k (2.5%) for 5*'s first look at 6.30pm.

Elsewhere, the latest episode of Doctors was seen by 1.36m (20.5%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
