The body of a man has been found on the A444 between Bedworth and Nuneaton.

Police believe the man was killed after being hit by vehicle on the road overnight near Sutherland Drive and are appealing for information.

The northbound A444 is expected to be closed for most of the day from the M6 junction to Griff Island at Nuneaton as forensic teams scour the scene.

Warwickshire Police were called by a passing motorist who spotted the body at 6.35am today (Sunday).

A spokeswoman said: “At this time his death is being treated as unexplained but officers believe he had been struck by a vehicle.

“Police are urging members of the public, particularly motorists who used this stretch of the A444 overnight from Saturday to this morning, to get in touch.

“The A444 remains closed in both directions from the junction with the M6 to Griff Roundabout and motorists are advised to make alternative travel arrangements.

“It is unknown when the road will reopen.”

Police said the identity of the man has been confirmed and family are currently being informed.

Body find on A444 in Bedworth prompts arrest

A 21-year old man has been arrested on suspicion of driving offences after the death of a man whose body was found on the A444 in Warwickshire.

Warwickshire police were called to the northbound carriageway of the road, near to Sutherland Drive, Bedworth, by a passing motorist on Sunday morning.

Officers were questioning the man at Nuneaton Police Station.

Investigation work closed the road in both directions from the junction with the M6 to the Griff Roundabout.

Both carriageways were reopened on Sunday afternoon, police said.

Police identify body found on Bedworth road as Sean Andrew Morley

A 20-year-old man who was found dead on the A444 near Nuneaton has been identified as Sean Andrew Morley from Bedworth.

Warwickshire police this afternoon released the man's name.

A 21-year old man, who was arrested on Sunday evening in connection with the incident, remains in police custody.

The grim discovery was made by a passing motorist on the northbound carriageway of the A444, near Sutherland Drive, Bedworth, at 6.35am on Sunday.

Police were called to the scene and found the body by the side of the road.

They said that they believe the man had been hit by a vehicle.

The A444 was closed in both directions from the M6 junction 3 to Griff Roundabout while investigations were carried out. Both carriageways were re-opened at 4.55pm.

Man bailed after body found on A444 in Bedworth

A 21-year-old man questioned after a student's body was found on a road in Warwickshire at the weekend has been released on police bail.

Sean Andrew Morley, 20, from Bedworth (pictured right), was found on the A444 near to Sutherland Road in Bedworth on Sunday morning.

Police said they were called to the scene by a passing motorist.

A man arrested on Sunday on suspicion of driving offences has been bailed pending inquiries, officers said.

The family of Mr Morley, a final year history and politics student at Aberystwyth University, paid tribute to him and said his death would "leave a huge hole" in their lives.
