Bad Education managed to build on its record-breaking opener last night (August 21), pulling huge figures for BBC Three.
Episode two of Jack Whitehall's self-penned sitcom, about the strife of a haplessly incompetent teacher, amused 988k (5.1%) at 10pm and 397k (9.4%) for a second showing at 12.30am - overall rising 250k on its first episode.
Controller Zai Bennett's airing of the comedy at 10pm, EastEnders' traditional repeat slot, is reaping the benefits for BBC Three.
Yet still, Bad Education failed to top the multichannel tables, as it was trumped by an old edition of Midsomer Murders which had 1.17m (5.2%) for ITV3.
The Great British Bake-Off's ratings climbed even more impressively on BBC Two; the gameshow soared over 700k on last week's opener to an average of 4.19m (19%). Then The Midwives trickled up to 2.1m (9%).
Meanwhile, Channel 4's one-off royal documentary - The Queen's Mother in Law - appealed to a hefty 3.47m (14.9%) in the 9pm hour - adding 493k (2.9%) on +1. At 8pm, Embarrassing Bodies grabbed 1.32m (6%) and 272k (1.2%) on timeshift.
Jimmy McGovern's Accused was one of the only losers in last night's programming, falling to 4.54m (19.5%) for its gang-themed story. EastEnders and Holby City both posted impressive figures earlier on.
Celebrity Big Brother delivered a strong 1.94m (11.2%) to Channel 5 at 10pm, but could not exceed the 100k mark on Channel 5 +1. Bit on the Side logged 666k (6.8%) from 11pm.
Elsewhere on 5, US drama Person of Interest slipped to 1.1m (4.7%) at the earlier time of 9pm, dropping slightly on its premiere, while The Gay Slayer: Born to Kill? intrigued 1.03m (4.7%).
Champions League football made a quiet return to Tuesday nights, with its coverage scoring 1.64m (7.4%) between 7.30pm and 10pm.
Overall, BBC One topped primetime with 23.3%, while BBC Two snatched the runner-up spot with 10.4% against ITV1's 9.7% (+1: 0.3%). Channel 4 finished in fourth place with 7.3% (+1: 1.3%), easily seeing off Channel 5's 5.4% (+1: 0.5%).
