Trains between Birmingham and Coventry face delays of up to an hour after a person was hit by a train near Tile Hill station.

Commuters across the region are reporting significant delays because of the incident, which happened close to Beechwood Tunnel at 11am.

Passengers are being advised to use bus services instead.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokeswoman said: “I can confirm that BTP officers attended the line close to Beechwood tunnel, Berkswell, Coventry, on Wednesday, 25 July, following a report that a man had been struck by a train.

“The incident, which was reported to BTP at 11.12am, was also attended by officers from West Midlands police and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.

“Paramedics from the West Midlands ambulance service also attended, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Officers are working to establish the identity of the man, and inform his family.

“A file will be prepared for the coroner.”

The train involved was the 1.03 Euston to Birmingham New Street service.

Police say they have “no clues” to help identify the body of a man who was struck by a 100mph train near Coventry.

British Transport Police were called to Beechwood Tunnel, in between Berkswell and Tile Hill stations, just after 11am on Wednesday.

The train involved was the 10.03 Euston to Birmingham New Street service travelling at 100mph.

Paramedics attended but nothing could be done to save him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers are now appealing for help from members of the public on trying to identify the man.

They say they have have made “extensive inquiries” and taken fingerprints from the body but are still without any clues to establish his identity.

The death is not being treated as suspicious.

The man is described as white, aged 30 to 45, with black shoulder-length hair.

He was wearing dark trousers, a red and blue top, possibly a polo shirt, white socks with green trim around the socks and white Nike training shoes with grey trim.

A BTP spokesman said: “It’s quite a rare case as the man didn’t have any identification on him. It’s quite unusual.

“We’re at a loss as to who he is. We’re going through our usual forms of inquiry and 99.9 per cent of the time someone will give us an indication and we will be able to move forward.

“We hope someone will come forward soon with someone they know who matches the description we have.

“It’s hard to put a time frame on his identification at this stage.

Investigating officer PC James Lynch, of BTP, said: “The man who died after being struck by the train had no identification on him and his fingerprints were not on the police database.

“I am appealing for anyone who recognises the description of the man or his clothing to come forward and contact British Transport Police straight away.”

Anyone with information should call British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
