Lynsey Nolan's shock death in Hollyoaks boosted its E4 first look figures last night (Friday), according to the latest overnight data.
E4's dramatic aftermath at 7pm nabbed an impressive 710k (3.7%), its highest ratings since Darren and Nancy's wedding in February.
The unexpected death on the teen soap, which played out on E4 yesterday, was seen by 743k (4.2%) on Channel 4 at 6.30pm (+1: 120k/0.6%).
EastEnders and Coronation Street drew neck and neck in the battle to top the soap ratings.
BBC One's Albert Square soap logged 6.7m (31.5%) back in its normal slot of 8pm as Jean made a U-turn over Michael, with the episode taking 686k (3.5%) on BBC Three two hours later.
The EastEnders Omnibus attracted 322k (6.1%) to BBC One from midnight.
A more light-hearted double bill of Coronation Street, which saw a rat run riot in the Rovers, appealed to 6.83m (33.8%) at 7.30pm (+1: 176k/0.8%) and 6.76m at 8.30pm (+1: 236k/1.1%).
Meanwhile, 5.53m (29.2%) watched Jai cheat on Charity with cleaner Rachel in Emmerdale at 7pm (+1: 179k/0.8%).
Elsewhere, Neighbours averaged 600k (8.3%) at 1.45pm and 897k (6.3%) at 5.30pm for Channel 5, while Home and Away grabbed 690k (4.2%) at 6.30pm and then mustered 437k (2.5%) for its first look edition on 5*.
