More than 100 people, including various dignitaries, gathered in the rain to watch His Royal Highness the Duke of Gloucester officially open the Linden Arches in the Pump Room Gardens this afternoon.

This was part of a visit to Warwick District by the Duke, who will also open Jubilee House in Kenilworth today.

Unveiling a plaque, which names all of those who made donations to the project or whom donations were made in memory of, The Duke said: “It is a great pleasure to come again to Leamington Spa and to have a flavour of your splendid Pump Room and the parks that you have here.

“Your town as created on the assumption that architecture had an important role to play and to provide a backdrop for elegant living together with a sense of community as shown by your parks and gardens.

“Your arches here may not have an awful lot of practical value but they are a way of bringing people to this path around the park and of giving it an extra emphasis and importance by making those who come here feel that it is a very special place indeed.
