Joyce Redman has died, aged 96.
The Oscar-nominated actress passed away in Kent, after she had been ill with pneumonia "for a little while", her actor son Crispin Redman stated.
Redman was nominated for an Academy Award for 'Best Supporting Actress' for her role in 1963's Tom Jones, opposite Albert Finney.
She received another nomination for the same prize two years later for 1965's version of Othello alongside Sir Laurence Olivier and Dame Maggie Smith.
Born in County Mayo, Ireland in 1915, she mainly appeared in theatre throughout the 1940s with the likes of Olivier and Ralph Richardson in productions including King Lear and Richard III.
She later appeared in TV roles including Vanity Fair, Tales of the Unexpected and Ruth Rendell Mysteries.
Other TV movie roles included The Merry Wives of Windsor, The Seven Dials Mystery and Prime Suspect: Scent of Darkness.
Her last role was in 2001's TV movie Victoria & Albert, where she played an elderly version of the monarch.
She is survived by three children, five grandchildren and her niece, actress Amanda Redman.
