A train driver had a lucky escape after a stone or brick tossed from a bridge smashed through his cab window near Nuneaton on Sunday evening.
The 8.22pm Birmingham New Street to Cambridge service was passing under a footbridge on the Birmingham side of Arley Tunnel, in Ansley,
near Nuneaton, when the object smashed through the driver’s side cab window, narrowly missing the driver.
A British Transport Police spokesman said: “This was a reckless act of vandalism that could easily have caused serious injury.
"We would appeal for anyone who knows anything about this incident to contact us.”
The incident was reported to police shortly before 9pm on Sunday evening and the train was terminated at Leicester station.
