These are the two swans that sparked traffic chaos on the Coventry ring road.

The pair of birds, believed to be a male and a female, wandered across the ring road at about 9.15am.

It led to queues of traffic as motorists had to stop to allow the swans to cross the busy carriageway.

Vehicles swerved to avoid the birds, which are thought to have made their way onto the ring road from the nearby Swanswell Pool.

Two police officers pulled over and left their van after seeing one of the swans in the road before it flew away.

They spotted the other swan nestled among the daffodils on the roundabout at the junction with Foleshill Road and Ringway St Nicholas.

The police officers went onto the island to protect it and called the RSPCA to remove it.

They remained at the scene until the RSPCA officer arrived.

An RSPCA spokesman said an inspector had attended.

One swan had flown away and the inspector brought the other safely back to Swanswell Pool.
