Furious residents and community groups have lodged more than 120 objections to a proposed new housing estate in Leamington.

Opponents to the 209-home development by A C Lloyd on farmland between Millpool Meadows, in Sydenham, and Whitnash, say local schools, roads and surgeries are already straining under demand and that extra homes would be unsustainable.

They also believe a single access road will affect safety on roads near two schools and that a proposed emergency access to the estate via Church Lane in Whitnash will not support large emergency vehicles, putting lives at risk.

A public consultation on the proposals finished this week. Warwick District Council will now consider the plans and the objections to the scheme before the issue goes before the planning committee for a decision.

Among those who have objected alongside local residents are Warwickshire County Council’s highways department, Leamington Town Council, Whitnash Town Council, Warwickshire Wildlife Trust, the Environment Agency and Croft Medical Centre.

Warwickshire Police, South Warwickshire NHS and Sport England have also stated that existing services cannot cope with additional homes and so they will need significant financial contributions from the developer to expand services in the area.

Local MP Chris White has written to Warwick District Council asking for them to ensure the access issue and pressure on local amenities is given due consideration.
