Following Blue Monday and the announcement at the start of this year that rail fares will increase, there is brighter news for travellers hopping across Coventry city centres.

On Tuesday 17th January, National Express Coventry launched the City Hop with a reduced £1 fare for any single journey around Coventry city centre including travel to and from Coventry rail station.

The aim of the City Hop is to encourage more people to use the buses, which travel frequently within minutes of each other around the city centre.

Peter Coates, Managing Director of National Express said: “With ever-rising petrol and car parking costs, we believe the £1 fare initiative is a real opportunity to increase the number of people that use the buses. The start of the year is a time when we look at our lifestyle, consider changes and economise. By introducing a lower fare, we are offering an added incentive to try the bus. National Express West Midlands has invested in improving the quality of its buses and we now have our new buses in service, providing environmental benefits along with a truly comfortable and enjoyable travel option.”

To promote the City Hop, a team of Hip Hop dancers surprised city centre travellers at Coventry rail station on Tuesday 17th January when they performed the “Bus-A-Move” routine.

It's a pity this scheme only applies to journey's made within the Ring Road otherwise I'd be very tempted to use it myself.

<soapbox mode ON>

£1 per journey within the city boundaries (off peak) and they'd be inundated. It wouldn't be worth running a car.

As it is, this fare is almost worthless. - "Pool Meadow to the city centre £1" - It's only half of trinity street isn't it? Nobody fit and active (unless terminally lazy) is likely to use it.

Interestingly, it applies to rail station journeys. Since when has the railway station been within the concrete collar?

Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
