AUDACIOUS thieves broke into a Coventry police station – before fleeing with officers’ uniforms.

The daring raid at the small station, in Roseberry Avenue, Bell Green, happened between Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Police are investigating the break-in, which the Telegraph understands happened when the base was unmanned.

A spokesman for the force confirmed that the thieves rifled through officers’ lockers and stole a number of items, including uniforms.

Because they made such a mess, police are not yet sure what exactly was taken.

The spokesman said: “Offenders have broken into the building and searched a number of lockers.

“Police in Coventry are investigating the incident.

“Items of police equipment, including uniforms are known to have been stolen, but the investigation into exactly what is missing is still taking place to identify all of the stolen items.”

People living in nearby Alice Arnold House, which overlooks the building, said police had been busy knocking on doors following the break-in.

One resident said: “They were round our flat asking questions the next day.

“They looked pretty embarrassed. We thought that if anywhere was likely to be safe it would be the police station.
