Youths make life hell at Warwick flats

Youths are making life hell for the residents of flats in Warwick.

There have been a string of incidents of anti-social behaviour reported at the block in Monks Way, involving a group of youths who gather in a stairway and drink booze and take drugs leaving residents afraid to go outside their front doors.

One resident at the end of their tether – who wished not to be named for fear of reprisal – has now written to police, Warwick District Council and even Warwick and Leamington MP Chris White in a bid to get action taken.

They told the paper: “Every night a group of youths, drinking alcohol, smoking and using drugs, urinating and generally being a pain congregate in the stairway of Monks Way.

“The 'security' doors and intercom system are totally ineffective and despite police being called out and incidents being reported on several occasions they still use it as a meeting place.

“The police and the council probably have numerous lists of complaints of one description or another but unfortunately the police cannot patrol all the times and the council only come during the day when it is quiet.

“What do we have to do to get some peace?”

The district council's community safety manager Pete Cutts said he was sorry to hear of the problems the residents were experiencing.

He added the housing tenancy enforcement team had been informed of the issue, as had Sgt Alison Wiggins, the head of Warwickshire Police's Warwick Safer Neighbourhood Team.
