A MAN staggered into hospital in Coventry with blood pouring from a gunshot wound.

The 21-year-old turned up at University Hospital in Walsgrave at 4am on Sunday with injuries to his upper body and shoulder.

The victim had made his own way there.

Accident and emergency staff alerted police to the nature of the man’s injuries.

The victim remained in hospital yesterday although he is expected to recover. It is unclear exactly where in Coventry the shooting took place, but detectives have since carried out door-to-door inquiries in several areas of the city, including Hipswell Highway, in Wyken.

No arrests have yet been made in connection with the incident.

Early reports that the shooting happened near the Millpool pub have now been dismissed.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: “A 21-year-old man was presented at hospital with a gunshot injury to his upper body in the early hours of Sunday, January 8.

“He is still in hospital but his injuries are not life-threatening.

“A number of inquiries are ongoing.”

A spokesman for Everards, the Leicester-based brewery which owns the Millpool, said: “No incident took place on our property or within the immediate proximity of the pub.”
