Restrictions have been put in place for visitors who must wash their hands, wear gloves and an apron while they see relatives, the hospital said.

The affected wards are Malins, Nicholas, Mary and Squire Ward. The latter closed on Wednesday.

People are urged to stay away if they have had or come into contact with vomiting or diarrhoea in the last 48 hours.

"Visitors are reminded that Norovirus is extremely easy to catch and by visiting affected wards they will be putting themselves at risk of catching the virus, which can then be easily spread to their family, friends and colleagues," a spokesman said.

"The trust will review this guidance at the end of the week in light of the wards affected and cooperation between visitors and ward staff."
