Ratings: Royal Variety Performance attracts 6.8m on ITV1

This year's Royal Variety Performance was seen by 6.76m (29.2%) from 7.30pm on Wednesday night, according to overnight audience data.

The gala evening helped the channel win primetime, while also grabbing an additional 252k (1.2%) on +1.

The ITV1 show comfortably dominated BBC One's lineup, which included That's Britain! (3.08m/14%) from 7.30pm, The Impressions Show (2.16m/9%) from 8.30pm and Panorama (2.27m/9.4%) from 9pm.

Would I Lie to You? rounded off the night for BBC One with 1.89m (14%) from 10.45pm.

On BBC Two, Victorian Farm Christmas took 1.56m (7.3%) from 7pm. Afterwards, MasterChef: The Professionals cooked up 3.14m (13.3%) while Steve Jobs: Billion Dollar Hippy earned 1.42m (5.9%). 1.01m (4.9%) attended 10pm's Class Dismissed.

The second episode of Channel 4's This Is England '88 was watched by 1.5m (8.4%) from 10pm (+1: 164k/1.7%). Earlier in the night, A Superscrimpers Christmas had 1.3m (5.5%) from 8pm (+1: 200k/0.8%) while Jamie's Christmas with Bells On treated 1.94m (8.1%) in the 9pm hour (+1: 346k/1.9%).

Channel 5's programming consisted primarily of live Europa League football, averaging 1.64m (7.1%).

ITV1 convincingly took primetime victory with a share of 26.7% (+1: 0.9%). BBC One (13.9%) and BBC Two (8.2%) followed, while Channel 4 finished with 6.2% (+1: 0.9%) and Channel 5 had 5.7%.
