E4 has axed comedy discussion show Dirty Digest after just three episodes.

The series, hosted by model and presenter Michelle De Swarte, was originally commissioned for an eight-week run.

However, the programme has now been cancelled with immediate effect, according to Chortle.

Though a Channel 4 spokesman would not discuss the reasons for the sudden axe, a source apparently told Chortle that the broadcaster was unhappy with changes to the show's senior production staff.

"The crew were changed without prior warning, meaning there was a complete new set of writers and producers," said the unnamed source.

"The talent quite rightly started wondering what was going on, and due to the complete mess created, Channel 4 pulled the plug."

Series contributor and stand-up comic Joe Lycett confirmed the abrupt cancellation on Twitter, writing: "A shame Dirty Digest ended early but it was such a pleasure working with the team. Thanks for watching."

The next edition of Dirty Digest has been replaced in the schedules by a repeat of Chris Moyles' Quiz Night.

I had the misfortune of catching a few minutes of this show and quickly changed channels. There's much better stuff hidden away on E4, almost all of it American.
