Amelia Lily's return sends 'X Factor' soaring to 10.6m

Despite technical difficulties, The X Factor increased its audience by one million viewers week-on-week to score 10.58m and a 40.9% share.

A further 252k (1.1%) watched an hour later, and sister programme The Xtra Factor nabbed 686k (3%) on ITV2 to take second place in the multichannel listings. It was beaten by Keith Lemon's Celebrity Juice, which took 735k (4.2%).

Piers Morgan's Life Stories followed The X Factor with 4.1m (18.4%) and 278k (2%) on +1. Earlier on ITV1, Harry Hill's TV Burp scored 4.83m (18.8%). A further 207k (0.8%) watched on timeshift.

On BBC One, Strictly Come Dancing waltzed its way to 10.26m (40.7%) from 7pm, while Merlin conjured a steady 5.4m (20.6%). The Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance saw 5.12m (21.5%) pay their respects following the 9pm lottery draw.

Come Fly With Me: The Story of Pan Am bagged 1.45m (5.5%) on BBC Two at 8pm, and QI XL tickled 1.38m (5.4%) an hour later. George Harrison: Living in the Material World informed 1.5m (7.2%) once the Stephen Fry quiz show had run its course.

Channel 4's World War II: The Last Heroes offered intellectual sustenance to 670k viewers (2.6%) before a screening of Twilight romanced 970k (4.3%). The film fared well on timeshift, taking 377k (2.3%).

Channel 5's Saturday night movie did better still. At 7pm, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider hunted down 1.36m (5.3%). At 9pm, NCIS brought in 696k (2.7%).

Overall, ITV1 edged primetime with 29% to BBC One's 27.9%. BBC Two's 5.7% fended off Channel 5's 5.3%, while Channel 4 finished bottom of the terrestrial pile with 3.2%.
