'EastEnders' attracts 8.4m with Syed's shock news

EastEnders remained the most popular soap on Thursday evening as Syed got some surprise news, according to overnight viewing data.

EastEnders appealed to 8.41m (39.4%) on BBC One from 7.30pm, as Syed considered his next move. A further 633k (3.2%) saw BBC Three's repeat screening from 10pm.

Coronation Street averaged 7.09m (29.8%) for ITV1 from 8.30pm, as Carla freaked out when a client got flirty. An additional 252k (1.1%) watched the episode on ITV1+1.

Emmerdale grabbed 6.62m (33.2%) on ITV1 from 7pm and 107k (0.5%) on +1 as Cameron and Debbie were forced to give alibis when the police came knocking. The rural soap pulled in 6.51m (29.2%) on ITV1 from 8pm and 288k (1.3%) on +1 as Charity was disgusted when she heard about Cain and Amy.

Elsewhere, Hollyoaks had 1.14m (6%) on Channel 4 from 6.30pm. E4's first look at the next episode appealed to 463k (2.3%) from 7pm.

Earlier in the day, Doctors entertained 1.6m (23.1%) on BBC One from 1.45pm, while Neighbours had 692k (9.9%) on Channel 5. The Aussie drama's repeat screening was watched by 950k (6.2%) from 5.30pm.

Home and Away appealed to 836k (4.8%) on Channel 5 from 6pm, and 5*'s first look at the next episode pulled in 408k (2.1%) from 6.30pm.
