Coventry Police have issued a photograph of a burglar who ran from court minutes before a judge was due to sentence him.

Shaun Jenkinson appeared at the city’s Crown Court on Thursday 15th September to face charges that he broke into a property in The Park Paling, Cheylesmore, back in May.

The 25-year-old – whose last known address is Chandos Street, Hillfields – admitted the offence and the judge adjourned proceedings to consider a pre-sentence report.

But during the pause Jenkinson left the court, ran from the court building and has not been seen since.

Investigating officer, Coventry Police Sergeant Asa Morris, said: “A warrant has been issued for Jenkinson’s arrest. Officers have tried to locate him at several addresses he has connections with but so far have been unable to track him down.

“The longer he absconds from custody the less favourably a court is likely to be when eventually dealing with him…it’s ultimately in his best interests to come forward.”

Police responded to reports of a burglary in progress in The Park Paling, Cheylesmore, at around 3am on May 21.

Officers arrested Jenkinson nearby with cuts to his hands and arms and he was later charged with burglary.
