West Midlands Ambulance Service in 'crash card' call

Motorcylists are being urged to carry cards which contain potentially life-saving information in the event of an accident.



West Midlands Ambulance Service said the "crash cards" can be kept in the lining of a biker's helmet.

They list the carrier's name, date of birth, medication and medical history giving paramedics vital information if the rider is unable to talk.

A small green dot on a helmet alerts staff to the biker having a card.

'Vital information'

The cards were created by the national Ambulance Motorcycle Club (AMC) and have the backing of Midlands Air Ambulance in the West Midlands.

Jeremy Brown, West Midlands Ambulance Service Trust's Regional Head of Emergency Operations Centres, said: "Whilst we hope you never have the need to call 999, the reality is that during the summer months, our call centres in Stafford and Brierley Hill do see a noticeable increase in the number of road traffic collisions involving motorcycles.

"The card provides ambulance staff with vital information if the rider is unable to talk to us for whatever reason.

"The card gives the carrier's name, date of birth, medication and medical history which could be vital when it comes to treating you at the scene."
