Police have confirmed a body found in a canal in Warwickshire yesterday is that of a vulnerable missing mum from Coventry.

27-year old Emma Ewart from Courthouse Green called her mum from IKEA in Coventry on May 24th and had not been seen or heard from since.

Police got a call after someone spotted a body under a bridge in the water between Bulkington and Bedworth yesterday afternoon and the area was cordoned off for several hours.

A post-mortem earlier today failed to decide how Emma died so further tests have been ordered and should come back in the next few weeks and her death is being treated as unexplained.

The senior officer leading the investigation, DCI James Essex said: “This is a tragic situation for the family and I would like to extend my sympathies to them at such a difficult time.

“We are currently building a picture of Miss Ewart’s last movements, where she went and who she spoke to. We know that she last talked to her Mother near to Ikea in Coventry City Centre on May 24 at approximately 2.30pm, but we do need to find out where she went after that.

“Anyone who saw Miss Ewart between May 24 and June 2 should please contact the investigation team, by calling Warwickshire Police on 01926 415000. I would also like to hear from anyone who saw any suspicious activity around the Coventry Canal either near to the bridge by the Navigation Public House or near to the canal between Bulkington and Bedworth.”

Information can also be passed on to DCI Essex anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

In a statement, Emma’s family said: ”Emma was a bubbly friendly young woman, a fantastic mum, sister, daughter, niece and friend and will be greatly missed by all.

“She will be remembered as a beautiful bright happy girl that brought joy and happiness to others and was a pleasure to be around.

“We ask at this very difficult time for family and friends to be given time to grieve for our great loss.”

I guessed that was the case earlier but didn't want to say anything in defference to her family.
