The man, in his thirties, died at the Ibis Hotel, in Abbey Road, Whitley, on Thursday night.

Officers were called to the hotel at about 9pm where they discovered the body.

He has not yet been identified.

Two men were arrested on suspicion of murder on Thursday night and have been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Witness, Warren Bembenek, told the Telegraph that two men were arguing with some of his colleagues at the hotel shortly before police and ambulance crews attended.

Warren was among a group of 20 at the hotel who were on the last day of their training course in the city.

He said: “I was having a late dinner and the next thing I know there were ambulance vans turning up and police cars everywhere.

"The officers handcuffed two guys.

“A few of the others on the training course were drinking later on and said they saw a body bag coming down the stairs from one of the rooms.

"The police were knocking on the room doors and were checking out the area.”
