A man’s suffered head injuries after he was assaulted by two men with crowbars during a raid on a Nuneaton supermarket.

The pair managed to scale an eight foot, spiked security gate between Subway and the Co-Op to get into Farmfoods on Horeston Grange just before 8:30am on Sunday morning.

Once they were inside they threatened staff preparing to open the store with the crowbars, assaulting one of them, and demanded cash.

They were given an amount of £1 coins and ran off towards the back of the store and the car park.

The first man’s described as white, around 5’9″ and was wearing a light top, possibly Nike, with a “AirMax” trainer bag over his shoulder.

The second was black, around 6′ and had a grey Adidas tracksuit with white stripes.

Police are looking for a young man who’s been spotted on CCTV just minutes before they arrived, wearing a blue shirt and light coloured trousers, and stress he’s a witness rather than a suspect.

DC Andrew Lea, who’s in charge of the investigation, said: “The member of staff at Farmfoods who was injured remained on duty, clearing the mess and preparing the store for that days trading. He has since been to hospital and treated for his injuries.”

Anybody with information can call DC Lea on 02476 641111 (extension: 3185) or Crimestoppers – anonymously – on 0800 555 111.
