Poppy petition launched by Stratford-upon-Avon teenager

A teenager from Stratford-upon-Avon has launched an online petition to try to ensure British people have the right to wear a poppy at work.



Harriet Phipps, 18, was working for Clothing chain Hollister in Southampton in November when she was told to remove her poppy.

Miss Phipps refused and the company later changed its uniform policy.

She has now started a campaign to get the law changed so companies will not be able to stop staff wearing a poppy.

'Fighting for him'

Miss Phipps said she needs 100,000 signatures on her petition to get the government to listen.

She is running the campaign in memory of her grandfather who fought in the trenches and was a prisoner of war for five years.

"He fought for our country and I'm fighting for him now," she said.

"I'll buy one every year," she added.

"It's the least we can do to show our respect."
