It followed a huge police presence outside the ground and into the evening around Birmingham city centre.

There had also been a large number of officers based at Villa Park on Saturday for Aston Villa’s match against Blackburn.

In total six people were arrested during the Midlands derby.

Two were arrested for public order offences, one for breach of the peace, one for breaching an existing banning order.

One person was arrested for assault and one for being drunk and trying to enter a football ground.

Two fans were also ejected from the ground during the game.

Chief Inspector Debra Doyle, match day commander for West Midlands Police, said: “While most people will come and enjoy the game, we recognise that there is a minority who may use the event as an opportunity to cause trouble.

“Anyone arrested for football related matters will be subject of applications for football banning orders which will prevent them from attending future fixtures.”

Anyone with information on those involved in the match day crime should call officers on 0345 113 5000.
