Two council-run residential care homes in Warwickshire could close within a year unless new funding is found, county councillors will be told.

The county council has been consulting over its care home provision and has put forward four recommendations to its councillors.

The proposals include closing or selling the care homes or setting up a company to operate them.

Mayfield, Bedworth, and Abbotsbury, Rugby, are the first on a closure list.

Councillor Izzi Seccombe, portfolio holder for adult, health and community services on the Conservative-controlled council, said the council had to take a "serious look" at its adult social care.

"The costs of our internal provision are unsustainable, especially when quality can be provided more efficiently in the external market," she said.

The county council runs ten residential homes. The matter will be discussed by the council's cabinet at a later date.

In November, the council said it expected to lose about £30m from its £132m adult social care budget within the next four years.
