Coventry City football fans can expect a "high-energy" performance from DJ and rapper Panjabi MC at the Championship game against Preston North End.

The Coventry-born producer, known for his iconic hit Mundian To Bach Ke, will be playing a 45 minute set at the Coventry Building Society Arena on Wednesday.

He told the BBC that being asked to headline the Cov Music Party, performed ahead of the game, was a "privilege".

Coventry City FC owner and Chairman Doug King said by bringing music and football together he is hoping to make match days big calendar moments, not just for the action on the pitch.

Talking about what fans can expect from his set, Panjabi MC said: "Its going to be pretty high energy. I'm keeping it up-tempo with back-to-back mixes with some Coventry influence.

"It's a privilege to be asked to do it. I was thinking about what to play, its like going to a rave with Coventry music backing it.

"Everyone's going to get something they haven't heard before."

Coventry music stars including Andy Hopkins from The Enemy, Jay 1 and Trevor Evans from The Specials will be watching the game.

King said: "Evening matches at Coventry City FC have become about far more than just football.

"As we know from our previous celebrations of 2-tone music, Coventry's sounds have always crossed boundaries and racial divides. Panjabi MC continued that with his unique twist on the Bhangra sound.

"But while we celebrate our city's great music of the past, we want to ensure that we are doing all we can to provide the platform that the next generation of Coventry-birthed talent needs.

"We will be playing their music in the stadium bowl throughout the night. All we ask from our supporters is that you party along with us and with those around you."
