It forms part of the plans for the former Debenhams store
An overgrown part of Nuneaton town centre is set for a make-over. The area of the River Anker, behind the old Debenhams store, is set to be cleared up.
It forms part of the plans to transform a large part of the old department store into new apartments. Zone developments, which has been appointed as the main contractor for the landmark redevelopment, has applied for permission to carry out the works on the riverbank within the development area.
The contractor says, on its website, that it is creating 63 high-quality Build to Rent (BTR) apartments with a mixture of one, two and three-bedroom homes and the development will incorporate commercial space to 're-activate Bridge Street and Newdegate Street'.
There is no official start date for the development works. But the new planning application for the riverbank area asks for the go ahead to:
- Vegetation clearance from the riverbanks of the development.
- Two crack willows removed
- A self set sycamore removed
- The removal of a damson removal
- Clear both side of river bank off all mixed shrubs and spray with roundup pro advantage
The proposal is now being considered by planning officers at the Town Hall. The application can be looked at by visiting the council's website and search for application reference 041574.
