It has been a main stay in Stockingford for 98 years

An 'iconic' social club in Nuneaton has confirmed that it is closing its doors after almost 100 years. The Stockingford Sports and Social Club off Arbury Road has served the 'Ford community for 98 years.

But is chairman Mark Keogh has confirmed that, at the end of this month, it will serve its last pints. Members met to discuss the ever increasing financial pressures on the club and decided it should close.

Speaking to CoventryLive, the chairman said "'We've got to hold our hands up and say 'we've been beat'.

He said business rates and rising beer prices have crushed the club. Added to this are desperately needed repairs, including to its roof, which they cannot afford.

The chair explained that they have tried everything to keep it afloat, including trying to sell the bungalows on the land, but he admitted it was 'not enough'.

Now the club, which has hosted celebrations for generations across the area, will serve its final pints on Monday, March 23.

It is understood that the land is set to be put up for sale.

In a post on its page on Facebook, it explained: "It is great sadness that we have to announce that after. 98 years of trading the beloved club will close on the 23rd of March due to increasing running costs beyond our reach.

"We would like to thank Fallon and Tia and other staff for all there hard work over the years members and guests who did support the the club. Another iconic club gone,"
