A Warwickshire council has confirmed its 'the biggest change ever' to its bin collections. North Warwickshire Borough Council has revealed that the huge change comes into force from Monday, February 23.

The council said that 80 per cent of households will see changes to their waste and recycling collection schedules. These changes could see a new collection day, a different bin being collected, or both.

Currently, a combination of black, red and green bins are collected each week across the borough. But, once the change comes into force, collections will move to an alternating schedule, with all black bins collected in week one, followed by all red bins in week two.

The council has warned that, as a result of this, those who pay for their green bin collections may also see their collection date change.

The council has said that collection rounds have been changed to 'fully optimise the service' and to make sure it operate more effectively and efficiently. It will also help with the introduction of food waste collections, which is says will start locally in the summer.

Residents are due to receive letters informing them of any changes to their collection. The letters will also detail their next three scheduled collections for each bin type.

In a statement, Councillor Margaret Bell, chair of the community and environment board, said: "The introduction of the new collection rounds will have a positive impact on how the council operates and will help us continue to work towards our goal of being as environmentally friendly as possible.

"We recognise that this is the biggest change ever made to our bin collections, and we are extremely grateful for residents’ cooperation.
