For most of us Christmas Day is a time for friends and family and and a bit of a well-earned indulgence. But sadly for many in the city 25 December will be a day spent alone.

Be it due to a lack of family, or a lack of funds, this time of year is meant to be full of joy, but can instead be just the opposite depending on your circumstances.

Luckily there are plenty of places in Coventry to turn to this Christmas Day if you're alone or don't have the financial capability of sorting a meal out on the big day.

Sky Blue Tavern

The Coventry City FC themed sports bar from Dhillon's Brewery has become renowned for its incredible décor and sumptuous Asian food. This year they're offering a meal for those in need.

A spokesman said: "Here at the Sky Blue Tavern we will be offering Christmas Day meals for the homeless, less fortunate and those struggling this year.

"Meals prepared for takeaway. One meal per person. The meal is curry, rice and roti. Every effort will be made to give everyone a meal, but stock is limited so head down quickly."

Urban Goodies

The Willenhall based charity is offering a free Christmas Day hamper which includes lunch with all the trimmings.

Urban Goodies is the brainchild of Clare Allington-Dixon - she said the project was created to support people who might never access a traditional food bank, while putting a firm emphasis on compassion.

"One of the reasons we started this is down to the stigma and shame many feel using food banks and hubs, and the fact so many live nowhere near an accessible one,” she said.

"People often think food poverty looks one way - but we deliver to a real cross-section of the community. Elderly residents, families, disabled people, single people - we don’t means test. Our members are people, not statistics."

Residents interested in the food delivery service or becoming a member can email urbangoodiescic@gmail.com for more information.

The Yard

Coventry city centre's LGBTQ+ community bar will open their doors to all this Christmas Day, with free mince pies and hot drinks.

The venue's Facebook page reads: "For many of us, the festive period can be tough, especially if chosen family feels miles away. This Christmas, The Yard is opening its doors to be your warm, welcoming, and safe space right here in Coventry.

"We want to offer a little slice of festive calm and community before the evening madness begins!

"Join us for a cosy morning and early afternoon: Open from 11AM – 3PM. FREE Mince Pies, Tea, and Coffee for everyone!

"Whether you're looking for a quick break, a quiet moment, or just want to spend some time with friendly faces from your chosen family, we'll be here. All are welcome! Let's share some holiday cheer together."

Coventry Open Christmas

The longrunning charity opens its doors to those in need across the Christmas period, offering shelter, warmth, blankets and food for those that need.

This will include a Christmas Day Lunch taking place 12pm to 1pm at Queens Road Baptist Church as part of the charity's Grub and Bag Club.

St Peter's

The church on Charles Street is offering a free Christmas Day meal - but spaces are limited and need to be booked.

The church's website states : "St Peter's is once again happy to provide a Christmas lunch for those who would otherwise be unable to share a special meal with some friendly faces. "This year there are limited places, please sign up to ensure your place. Do make sure you sign up each person individually, including children."
