NHS Warwickshire has re-appealed for 4x4 vehicle owners to help them reach rural patients in the snow and ice.

About 80 drivers have been in touch but at least 20 more vehicles were needed, the health service said.

Roads in the south of the county were impassable to normal health service vehicles after about 5in (about 12.7cm) of snow fell in the county overnight.

Hospitals had also been experiencing a rise in cold weather-related admissions, it said.

Roads have been gritted 14 times since Friday with about 5,700 tonnes of salt, Warwickshire County Council said.

It has another 8,300 tonnes in stock and 4,000 additional tonnes have been ordered.
