A Coventry family whose home was destroyed in a major firework blaze say they have 'lost everything.' Businessman Mohsen Mahmoudi and his family returned to their home one evening to find it completely gutted.

Friend Monica Chumber said the family of four was out when the blaze engulfed their property in Foleshill. It was believed to have been sparked by a firework that had landed in their garden on the weekend of Diwali.

Firefighters were called, but the blaze had already engulfed the three-bed property on Horndean Close. Monica said everything the family had was destroyed, leaving them 'devastated.'

Speaking to CoventryLive, Monica, 28, said: “You go out and live your normal life, thinking you are going to come back, and the house will be the same, and their house is just completely gutted.”

She continued: “It was awful! Apparently, it was caused by a firework, which is just crazy to think that a firework can do something like that! Mo and his family are devastated, they have lost everything, and they are just trying to keep going.”

Clothes and electrical goods were among the items destroyed, along with cherished photographs and belongings, which Monica says can never be replaced. As the property was uninsured, the family are desperately trying to rebuild.

Monica launched a GoFundMe and has already raised more than £11,000. But she says the family still have a long way to go to reach their goal of £80,000.

She said: “We believe in the power of community, in people coming together when one of us falls. Every donation, no matter how small, will go directly towards clearing and repairing the fire damage, beginning the rebuilding process and replacing essential household items and clothing.”
