It comes after reports of drug use and abuse of car park staff
Police say they have removed numerous people and issued five rough sleepers with official warnings in a bid to crackdown on antisocial behaviour (ASB) at Coventry Train Station. As previously reported by CoventryLive St Michael's neighbourhood police team, which covers the city centre and some of the surrounding areas, have been made aware of rough sleepers, drug use and intimidation of staff members.
The neighbourhood team made the issue one of its top priorities last month, and have now revealed some of the action being taken to combat the problem. A spokesman for the team said: "We are implementing additional patrols in the area, and working alongside the estate managers to consider alternative preventative measures.
"In total five persons have now been issued with Community Protection Warnings in relation to rough sleeping and ASB at the location. The neighbourhood team continue to conduct regular patrols of the location. We have removed numerous individuals from the location and continue to closely monitor."
Police have also been working with Coventry City Council to combat the issue. A Council Spokesman told us last month: “We are aware of a number of people sleeping rough in the station car park.
“Our Rough Sleeper Outreach Team have been engaging with them consistently, visiting them throughout the week to offer support and encourage them to take up accommodation.
“We’re pleased to say that some of them have accepted support, and one only this week, has accepted an offer of accommodation. We will continue to monitor the area and work with anyone we find.
“Anyone who sees a rough sleeper can report them to us by using streetlink.org.uk and we will visit and try to help them.”
