Alex the Woodcarver and some of his handiwork. He is self-taught and is doing this for free. The work is for the Memorial Park - this tree is just outside the park near the Earlsdon Avenue South entrance off Kenilworth Road. This tree will either stay where it is ( in an effort to get more people to walk through the thin strip of woodland ) or might be moved to a more prominent location inside the park. He plans to carve a caterpillar style bench into it for children to site on. He is also working on a tree across the road and is hoping to work on a tree inside the park near the park and ride.

Thanks for the report Peter
That wood was part of my route to school for a number of years!
It's good to see the trunk being put to good use but was it absolutely necessary for the tree to be felled in the first place?

Not sure, though I don't think it was chopped down for the benefit of the wood carver.

Neither do I Peter but I see mature trees all over the city being felled or stripped of all their branches for no good reason other than it means slightly less work for roadside maintenance departments
