The Ball Hill boozer is currently sat unused
A historic Coventry pub has closed with the windows currently boarded up. It is unknown what the future holds for the Old Ball Hotel - an establishment which dates back to at least the early 1800s.
The pub's Facebook page states the venue is under new management, but nothing has been posted since last month. Meanwhile the Campaign for Real Ale website advises the pub is currently closed with the tenancy up for grabs.
CoventryLive has approached the pub for comment, as well as Admiral Taverns, the pub company who own the venue. Admiral Taverns said they were considering options for the venue.
According to Historic Coventry, the pub gave it's name to what is now known as Ball Hill. Their website reads: "The rising ground on which the Old Ball stands was originally known as Stoke Knob.
"It is said that the name Ball Hill was derived from the Ball Inn, which became the Old Ball Hotel in the early years of the twentieth century."
The news comes at a difficult time for pubs across the country, with reports often stating dozens are closing a month every year. Last week CoventryLive shared news popular Chapelfields pub the Nursery Tavern was set to close just months after reopening.
