Police searching for missing Stefan Watkins have found human remains in Coventry. Officers had been carrying out searches in Coventry over the weekend and made the discovery in Charterhouse Fields.

Dad Stefan, from Warwick, mysteriously vanished in May 2023. Police have issued numerous appeals in the two years since his disappearance but today (February 4) said remains have been found in Coventry on Saturday (February 1).

Officers had been tipped off about a sighting of Watkins in the days before he was reported missing. He was reportedly seen at the junction of Vauxhall Street and Berry Street in Hillfields.

Cops had been carrying out extensive searches in the city over the weekend before finding human remains behind Blue Coat School. Now they have been forensically recovered and will be subject to a post-mortem, Warwickshire Police said in a statement today (February 4).

Identification is yet to take place, but the family of Stefan has been informed. Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances around the tragic discovery and urged people with information to get in touch with them by calling 101.

Information can also be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers. As part of the investigation, which has been ongoing for nearly two years, a 45-year-old woman from Warwick was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder but later bailed.

In a statement issued today (February 4), Warwickshire Police said: “Officers searching for Stefan Watkins have found remains in an area of Coventry. Remains, which were discovered in Charterhouse Fields on Saturday (February 1), have been forensically recovered and will be subject to a post-mortem in due course.”

Police confirm human remains found in Coventry are missing man Stefan Watkins

Police have confirmed human remains found in Coventry are those of a missing dad. Stefan Watkins disappeared on King Charles' Coronation in 2023.

Stefan, from Warwick, was originally reported missing on May 23, 2023. Detectives issued numerous appeals to track down the then 47-year-old, who was known as Lee.

Investigating officers discovered human remains at Charterhouse Fields in February. Tests revealed that they belonged to Stefan.

His death is not being treated as suspicious, Warwickshire Police said in an update today (June 10). Detective Inspector Gareth Unett said the investigation into what happened to Stefan had been 'lengthy and complex.'

DI Unett, from Warwickshire Police, said: “We would like to thank everyone who helped us by sharing our appeals as we tried to find Stefan, and we know his disappearance struck a real chord in the local area.”

He added: “Since Stefan was reported as a missing person, we have continually supported his family and strived to get answers for them. It has been a complex and lengthy investigation, and although this is not the outcome any of us would have wanted, hopefully his loved ones should now be able to start to come to terms with what has happened.”
