Officers made the discovery in Charterhouse Fields on Saturday
Police searching for missing Stefan Watkins have found human remains in Coventry. Officers had been carrying out searches in Coventry over the weekend and made the discovery in Charterhouse Fields.
Dad Stefan, from Warwick, mysteriously vanished in May 2023. Police have issued numerous appeals in the two years since his disappearance but today (February 4) said remains have been found in Coventry on Saturday (February 1).
Officers had been tipped off about a sighting of Watkins in the days before he was reported missing. He was reportedly seen at the junction of Vauxhall Street and Berry Street in Hillfields.
Cops had been carrying out extensive searches in the city over the weekend before finding human remains behind Blue Coat School. Now they have been forensically recovered and will be subject to a post-mortem, Warwickshire Police said in a statement today (February 4).
Identification is yet to take place, but the family of Stefan has been informed. Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances around the tragic discovery and urged people with information to get in touch with them by calling 101.
Information can also be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers. As part of the investigation, which has been ongoing for nearly two years, a 45-year-old woman from Warwick was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder but later bailed.
