Police have revealed they have arrested a man after a five-hour standoff in Coventry. Officers were called to Villa Road in Radford this morning (Friday, January 3).

Neighbours dialled 999 after a man was seen on the roof of a property on Villa Road. Firefighters were dispatched to the scene of the incident at around 11.25am.

Villa Road was cordoned off at the junction with Radford Road. Police spent around five hours negotiating with the man who is aged in his 30s.

Drones were used to monitor the incident, which has now been safely resolved. A woman who lives on Villa Road told CoventryLive that the situation was' nerve-wracking.'

At around 5pm today (January 3), the man, who has not been named, voluntarily agreed to come down from the roof of the property on Villa Road. He was arrested as part of an ongoing investigation, West Midlands Police said.

In a statement issued this evening (January 3), West Midlands Police said: “A man in his 30s has been arrested following an incident in Coventry. We were called to Villa Road in Radford after reports of a man on the roof of a property.

“Officers have been in attendance throughout today (January 3), engaging with the man. He has now voluntarily come down from the roof and been arrested as part of an ongoing investigation.”

Man named and charged after five-hour Coventry Villa Road police incident

A man has been charged after a five-hour police incident in Coventry. Police were called to Villa Road at the junction with Radford Road on Friday (January 3).

Neighbours dialled 999 after a man was seen on the roof of a property on Villa Road. Police were dispatched to the scene and spent around five hours there.

A 36-year-old man, named by police as Robert Tallis, was arrested on Friday (January 3). He has since been charged with assaulting a police officer, causing criminal damage, threatening to cause criminal damage, obstructing police, and aggravated trespassing.

Tallis has also been charged with two offences relating to an investigation being led by Warwickshire Police. He has been remanded to appear at Coventry Magistrates' Court on Monday (January 6).

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “We have charged a man with a number of offences after an incident in Coventry. Robert Tallis was arrested on Friday (January 3) following an incident on Villa Road in Radford.

“Tallis has now been charged with assaulting a police officer, causing criminal damage, threatening to cause criminal damage, obstructing police, and aggravated trespassing.

“He has also been charged with two offences relating to a Warwickshire Police investigation. Tallis has been remanded to appear before Coventry Magistrates' Court on January 6.”
