Collections will not be taking place on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day

Residents have been warned of major changes to Coventry bin collections over Christmas and New Year. Coventry City Council has confirmed the rescheduled bin collection days for the festive period.

Christmas is the time of year when our bins are most full, brimming with empty wine bottles, ravaged wrapping paper, and leftover food. It makes it all the more important to check your adjusted collection dates, and thankfully, CoventryLive has you covered.

Households have been told that refuse, recycling, and food waste will not be collected on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, or New Years Day. Workers get major festive days off, meaning collections that would have fallen on those days, which are weekdays this year, have to happen on weekends instead.

Coventry City Council confirmed that garden waste collections, which cost £40 a year, will also be paused from Monday, December 9, to Friday, January 10. Collections will resume on Monday, January 13.

Bins crews will be working across Coventry from 7am on the following dates over Christmas and New Year:

  • Normal Collection Tuesday December 24
  • Wednesday December 25 bins will be collected on Friday December 27
  • Thursday December 26 will be collected on Saturday December 28
  • Friday December 27 bins will be collected Monday December 30
  • Tuesday December 31 collections as normal
  • Wednesday January 1 to be collected Thursday January 2
  • Thursday January 2 bins to be collected Friday January 3
  • Friday January 3 to be collected Saturday January 4

They've already skipped one collection around here so there will now be a knock-on effect with rubbish overflowing onto the street for the next two or three weeks. :fuming:

Urgent bin collection message to Coventry households this week

Council bosses have warned some households in Coventry that their usual bin collection date will change this week. Some residents will not have their bins collection on their usual date.

This is due to disruption caused by the New Year. It will impact those who are due to have collections on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week.

The dates have been changed, moving 24 hours later for each. There have been reports on social media that some of the rescheduled last week did not take place and CoventryLive has asked the council for a comment.

The changed collection dates are as follows:
  • Wednesday, January 1 2025 moved to Thursday, January 2 2025
  • Thursday, January 2 2025 moved to Friday, January 3 2025
  • Friday, January 3 2025 moved to Saturday, January 4 2025
Brown lid collections also remain suspended until Friday, January 10. Collections will start again on week beginning Monday, January 13 or Monday, January 20, depending on the scheduled collection day.

This is a paid for service and more details can be found on the council's website.

Yeah right, I don't believe a word of it. :fuming:

There could have been a collection last Saturday but wasn't so why would there be one next Saturday?

We had a collection on Monday to my great surprise but before I could put any bin bags out it was already full to overflowing again, along with any other bins nearby! :fuming:

We had a second collection on Tuesday, I've never known that before!

The bin is already half-full again I think because people were holding rubbish back until there was room to put it out, I know I was and the next collection is not now due until Monday of next week by which time it will be overflowing again.
