Warwickshire have named Jim Troughton as their new captain following the resignation of Ian Westwood.

The 31-year-old, who has played six one-day internationals for England, first appeared for the Bears in 1999 and made his first-class bow in 2001.

"I look forward to continuing the great work started by Ian Westwood," Troughton told the club website.

"Warwickshire cricket is in my blood and I will be working hard to uphold the great traditions of this club."

Troughton was part of the Bears team that won the Clydesdale Bank 40 in September, and was captain for the latter stages of their run to the last eight of the Friends Provident t20.

But the left-hander struggled for form in first-class cricket last term, making just one half-century in 30 Championship innings.

"I had a taste of the captaincy last season in the latter stages of the Twenty20 campaign and I am thrilled to be taking on the position across all forms of the game," added Troughton.

Director of cricket Ashley Giles said: "We are delighted that Jim has agreed to take on this important position and I have every confidence that his experience and maturity will make the transition a smooth one.

"Jim is one of our home grown talents and for the past two seasons has been a key member of the squad in all forms of the game.

"I am looking forward to working with him during the crucial winter preparation period as well as the coming seasons."
