A 41-year-old man has been arrested over a stand-off lasting about five hours in Coventry.
Police tried to arrest a suspect in Birmingham Road, Allesley, at 0600 BST.
The suspect, who was wanted on a recall to prison following an allegation of assault, threatened officers.
A firearm was recovered from the scene at 1100 BST and the suspect was arrested at about that time after being spoken to by police negotiators.
A police cordon was in place and the West Midlands force thanked residents who were affected by road closures for their patience.
Roads in the area have since been reopened.
