An elderly woman who was the victim of a 'serious assault' in Bedworth remains in hospital. The woman, aged in her late 80s, has been receiving treatment in hospital for the past three days following the unprovoked attack in Newdigate Park.

She was reportedly pushed to the ground by three girls on Sunday afternoon (August 13) leaving her with head, shoulder and hand injuries. Police arrested one female on suspicion of GBH.

But a spokesman for Warwickshire Police said that the other two suspects remain at large. This makes the plea for any witnesses in the area at the time even more crucial so that they can trace the pair.

Detective Sergeant Magnus McAuley from Nuneaton CID, previously described it as an unprovoked attack on an elderly woman, which will cause 'great concern to the local community.'

Police patrols have been stepped up in the area and the plea for anyone in park area at around 2.30pm on Sunday continues.

“I would urge anyone who may have witnessed the incident or was in the park at around the time of the incident who may have seen something suspicious, to please get in touch as any information, no matter how small, could really help with our investigation," DC Mcauley said.

Any witnesses or anyone with information should either contact police via the website quoting incident number 195 of August 13. Details can also be passed on anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
