Another Coventry road has been flooded with water, sparking road safety fears. This time, water has pooled along Clifford Bridge Road and Ansty Road in Wyken, close to the hospital.

It's the third time in a matter of weeks that leaking water has caused issues on the city's roads. Severn Trent were forced to apologise after a large burst pipe caused a sinkhole to open up, swallowing a car on Sewall Highway, at the end of July. And just a few days later a burst pipe caused chaos on Grange Road.

CoventryLive reader Dennis Fuller says he first tried to contact Severn Trent Water about the leak more than a week ago, but has not been able to reach anyone. Adding to the frustration, Mr Fuller fears the leak could compromise the road surface right next to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.

"Apart from the waste of water this could be undermining the carriageway outside the hospital entrance," he said. "As an ex-utility worker I appreciate that Severn Trent might have difficulties getting permission to work on that position outside a hospital.

"My annoyance is the fact that I have tried for over a week to report the leak on the Severn Trent's advertised leak reporting telephone number only for an automated answer to tell me that they are not accepting calls on the number. I can only assume Severn Trent don’t care about leaks."

The actual cause of the leak is unclear though the water appears to be coming from a burst drain. Flooding and standing water can have serious consequences as seen recently when a car fell through the huge sinkhole in Sewall Highway.

A large STW pipe burst causing water to gush down the street hours before the hole emerged in the early hours of July 24. A spokesperson from Severn Trent said: "We’re sorry for the inconvenience caused to Mr Fuller when reporting a potential leak, and we’re thankful for him in making sure we were aware.

"We were first made aware of an issue early July, where we’ve attended and taken samples to determine if the water is from our network or not. Now we have the sample results back, we will now be returning to begin repairs.

"As we require traffic management to do this safely, we are currently planning this work in to cause as little disruption as possible. Again, we’re sorry for the inconvenience caused when reporting this to us and it will be our priority to get the work scheduled to go ahead as soon as possible."

Doesn't explain why Severn Trent were refusing to take calls?
